Red Line Rolex 24 @ Daytona and two commissions score big for Camp Boggy Creek at Champions Banquet of Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series

October 2008 (Daytona Beach, FL) - Gentlemen, refold your wallets: Red Line Rolex 24 @ Daytona has been sold. The mixed-media sculpture by California artist Steve Maloney brought down the house at the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Champions Banquet, drawing $78,000 at auction from anonymous bidders for itself and two commissioned works at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas on September 22, 2008.

All proceeds from the art auction benefited Camp Boggy Creek, one of the Hole in the Wall Camps founded by late actor and auto-racing aficionado Paul Newman, who passed away just four days after the event. The Hole in the Wall Camps organization is dedicated to enriching the lives of children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses through experiences that are fun, safe and sound. The purchase price of Maloney's original and two commissioned works - which broke down to $26,000 apiece - will send 30 children to Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Florida.

No mere sports tribute, Maloney's Red Line Rolex 24 @ Daytona is a visceral take on the inherent excitement and commercialism of auto racing - created from actual bodywork and components of Daytona Prototype and Grand Touring racecars during the heat of the 50th running of the Daytona 500. The scuffed, dented and otherwise distressed parts were collected at the 2008 Rolex 24 at Daytona and turned over to Maloney for his artistic work in a trackside studio mere steps from the Pit Road and the Daytona 500 Club as Ryan Newman wound his way to victory at Daytona 500 on February 17, 2008.
