ARTIST STEVE MALONEY TO UNKNOT HIS BRONZE TIE COLLECTION OF SCULPTURAL WORKS AT WILKES BASHFORD IN SAN FRANCISCO

Just in time for Father's Day, menswear retailer-turned-artist fashions eye candy for shoppers at "Head-to-Toe" trunk show

** …and it's for a good cause… **

WHO/WHAT: Artist, fashion enthusiast, and American pop culture celebrant Steve Maloney of Rancho Santa Fe, California will unknot his Bronze Tie collection of sculptural works at the Head-to-Toe trunk show at Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco. Pieces from Maloney's Bronze Tie series will be eye candy for shoppers at the specialty-clothing retailer, which is promoting the trunk show as a "pre-Father's Day shopping extravaganza."

WHEN: Ten colorful sculptural pieces from Maloney's Bronze Tie collection will be displayed at Wilkes Bashford throughout the Head-to-Toe trunk show, which runs on June 12, 2010 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Maloney will also be on hand throughout the day to showcase his works.

WHERE: The Bronze Ties from Maloney's collection will appear in street windows and on the 3rd floor of Wilkes Bashford, at 375 Sutter Street in San Francisco.

WHY: By celebrating the timeless wardrobe classic, Maloney's Bronze Tie collection is the perfect accessory for a Father's Day retail promotion. Indeed, according to Time magazine: "Wide or skinny, plaid or plain, synthetic or silk, the tie is a Father's Day staple - nearly 4.5 million dads are getting one - and one of the few fashion accessories to have survived nearly 400 years of social change."

WHY NECKWEAR IN BRONZE: Growing up in the Midwest, Maloney spent his adolescence selling clothing and furnishings at his family's department store. The experience inspired him to launch his own men's store in Kalamazoo, Michigan. "I can still recall sidewalks crowded with men in neckties, whose deceptive simplicity revealed so much about their wearers. Colors, patterns, even textures exposed the men as serious, important, creative, humorous or powerful by turns - or, sometimes, all at once." Decades later, upon self-exploration as an artist, Maloney believed that a bronze sculpture of a tie would provide "an alternative canvas to explore form, motion, and color."

IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT ART OR FASHION: A percentage of the proceeds from the Head-to-Toe trunk show will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco. Maloney will donate the same percentage of all sold Bronze Tie works.
